Note: The Fishing Derby is organized by volunteers and supported by generous businesses and individuals in the area. Menu The 25th annual 2008 Rohnert Park Fishing Derby has came and gone Well sometimes you have to watch what you wish for, as I wished for a nice sunny day for this years fishing derby and we ended up with one of the hottest days of the year. But, yet with the hot weather, 330 kids still ended up with 147 fish caught at this years derbies. We were honored by having Reba Roberts toss out the first cast. Reba is the former wife of Art Roberts, who the lake was named after. Art Roberts was city councilmen and Mayor for many years and a big part of Rohnert Park from 1968 to 1986. In 1986 after Art passed away, the city council dedicated the lake in memory of Art Roberts. The biggest fish in the first derby was 3.84 pounds, which is the largest fish caught at a fishing derby. In the second derby the biggest fish was 2.25 pounds. Check out all the photos here.
