This is the recap for the 23rd annual Rohnert Park Fishing Derby

23rd Annual Rohnert Park Fishing Derby has completed!

The Rohnert Park Fishing Derby was a popular event Saturday, May 20th.  The weather was nice enough to shine on the fishing derby and shore space wasn’t a problem this year, as we had two fishing derbies to accommodate more kids. This year was a record year for fish caught with a total of 168 fish, which is double the amount from last year. The 1st derby had 115 fish caught in two hours, making it almost a fish a minute. The second derby, which had about a third the number of kids, pulled in 55 fish in two hours.

The kids also enjoyed the free donuts, coffee, hot chocolate, snow cones, hot dogs, and a lake stocked with about 1100 trout.  Approximately 400 kids attended, and the biggest fish, weighing 1.95 pounds, was caught by James Aders.

Thanks to generous donations, over 300 prizes were distributed, including: fishing equipment and Rohnert Park Fishing Derby t-shirt, featuring artwork by Artist-of-the-Year Justin Zinnerman.

Pictures from the fishing derby are posted in our Photo Album & the Community Voice. Make sure to check out the Voice this Friday and coming soon new pictures will be put up at Applebee's.
