This is the recap for the 22nd annual Rohnert Park Fishing Derby

THE 22ND ANNUAL ROHNERT PARK FISHING DERBY

The weather was outstanding and the turnout was unbelievable, with 330 participants. 206 of these kids had never attended a derby before this, and a large percentage had never previously fished.  Twelve kids caught their first fish and received an “I caught my first fish at the Rohnert Park Fishing Derby” award, while medals were awarded for the most fish and biggest fish in each category.

As for the fishing, 87 fish were caught; the largest was a 2.05-pound trout. A fish was caught every 2 minutes and 6 seconds during the 3-hour derby. If you’d like to see these fish, and lots of smiling kids, view the pictures.

Even those who didn’t catch a fish seemed to have a fantastic time.  Between the free coffee, donuts and snow cones, the fishing and casting contests, the free hot dog lunch and the 250 prizes handed out to the kids, (which ranged from fishing gear and toys to our first Rohnert Park Fishing Derby T-shirts), kids and adults alike felt like they were involved in something special.

Thank you again for all your help and support.  I am already looking forward to next year, where I envision more kids     attending, more fish caught, and sunny weather.  I hope you will be a part of the 2006 Rohnert Park Fishing Derby.  Let’s make this event a family tradition.

I want to thank all that helped volunteer and participated at this year's fishing derby and hope to see you next year.

Thank you

Ken Zschach                                                                                                                                                                    President of the Rohnert Park Fishing Derby
