THE 21ST ANNUAL ROHNERT PARK FISHING DERBY

It was an exciting day for over 197 children, and all their families. And it all couldn’t happen without the very generous local sponsors and individuals that donate to this event. All volunteers did a great job and I can't thank you all enough.

Let me start by saying 2 years ago there were 30 kids and getting a spot on the shore was no problem. I showed up at 5:30am this year to start setting up and there were 10 families already setting up. WOW!

This year we caught 74 fish, by 56 different kids, in 3 hours. For 19 of those kids, it was the first one they ever caught. So if my math is right, that's a fish caught every 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Not bad, but I'm still far from my goal of having every kid catch a fish. But we're getting there. Well, every kid did go home with at less one fish. Inside every welcome bag you will find a FREE gold fish coupon.

We had over 80 raffle prizes, a free hotdog lunch, hot chocolate, snow cones, coffee and donuts. The raffle went on way too long and I apologize for that. I already have a great idea on getting the raffle prizes time cut in half for next year.
